Tonight’s episode begins in Thessaloniki, Greece where the final four teams are taking a charter flight 1700 miles to Lisbon, Portugal. Once there, teams must find Fortaleza De Sao Filipe, a 439-year-old fortress built to protect the shoreline from invasion. Raquel & Cayla are the first teams to depart. Ryan & Dusty are the last teams to depart because they were the last team to arrive on the last leg, and were lucky that it was a non-elimination race. There are only four teams left, so the margin of error is really low in this leg.
Raquel & Cayla just saw Arun & Natalia, which means they have lost their lead. Raquel & Cayla decide to stop and ask for directions. Meanwhile, Kin & Penn are the first teams to arrive at the Road Block, “who wants to go exploring?” Teams must choose a boat with a name of a famous explorer they make their way to the other side of the marina, if they have chosen correctly a fisherman will give them their next clue. If not, they have to turn back and try again. Kim takes a chance and chooses a boat, she doesn’t recognize any of the names on the boats. Then when it comes to rowing, Kim is not the fastest. Arun decides to do the detour for his team, Raquel for her team. All three of those teams are at the Detour, Ryan & Dusty made a wrong turn and are not there yet. Kim does well, she made the correct choice and now they must make it there was on foot to Mercearia Confianca De Troino. Ryan & Dusty arrive, now everyone is doing the Detour. Raquel also makes the right choice the first time around. Arun doesn’t know how to row the boat, he is going around in circles.
Kim & Penn are in the first place, they must choose a sardine can from a marked stand outside the store. Locals regard the old can designs as prized pieces of artwork, something that is seen on display in the fishing city. After choosing a sardine can, teams must replicate it by painting it on a door.
Ryan & Dusty, even after two attempts at choosing the explorer, finish the roadblock and are in front of Arun & Natalia who are on the second try with Arun being a slow rower. Kim & Penn finish painting, but it is not right and they have to continue. Arun & Natalia are done, they are on their way to paint. Raquel & Cayla are the first teams to finish painting the door and must drive themselves to Santuario Do Cabo Espichel where they will find their next clue. After three attempts, Kim & Penn are done as well.
Kim & Penn arrive at the next Roadblock. In 1410, two fishermen claimed that they saw the Virgin Mary rise up out of the ocean on a mule. The church has 106 columns in its courtyard. Teams must count the columns while standing in a designated space. When they get the correct count, a monk will give them their next clue, the next pit stop at Farol Do Cabo Espichel, a 231-year-old lighthouse.
Penn is on this task, the problem is, where he is standing, it is hard to see the columns all the way down at the front of the church. Once they have their number, they have to run about a quarter-mile to the monk and if they get it wrong, they have to turn around and go monk, they just can’t keep guessing.
Dusty & Ryan are having a hard time painting the door, there is a doorknob and it takes them ten attempts to realize it. This definitely gives Arun & Natalia a chance to catch up, and they manage to paint the door on the first try. Penn has given up counting, he is just going to keep guessing, running back and forth, until he gets it right. Cayla is there as well and she guesses on the first try. Penn is frustrated, he just keeps guessing. Penn finally does it by taking his time and counting another time.
Raquel & Cayla are team number one at the pit stop, they have one a trip for two to St. Lucia. Kim & Penn are team number two. It takes Dusty a few attempts, but he counts the columns correctly, they are team number three and will be running to the finish line for a million dollars. Arun & Natalia are the four-team to arrive at the Pit Stop and are eliminated.
The final three teams are in Los Angeles, California for the final leg. Teams must inlock a clue box on the Westin Hotel tower, but first, they have to figure out that the clue is on the elevator going up the tower. Raquel & Cayla are the first team to figure it out and must drive themselves to the El Pueblo de Los Angeles to find their next clue.
Kim & Penn are in first place with Raquel & Cayla just behind them. Paper mache pinatas are a way for everyone to have a smashing good time. Teams must find three parts of a clue by smashing their way through the colorful party favors. One team member must put on a blindfold while their partner guides them to break open, a taco, a tiny donkey, and an all-paper star. Each contains a piece of their next clue. Meanwhile, Dusty & Ryan are still stuck at the tower, they can’t figure out where to get the combination for the lock. The clue was right in their faces all the time, they do end up figuring it out, but they need to hurry to make up time.
Raquel & Cayla are done and in the first place. They must now head to 6465 Sunset Blvd, to SIR, at the artist entrance. Raquel & Cayla arrive, they get their next clue, it is time for teams to make sound effects for five of Amazing Race’s most memorable moments videos. Raquel & Cayla do it, they get their next clue. They must head to Dignity Health Sports Park to find their next clue. Kim & Penn are next, and they are right behind, they are tied for first. Dusty & Ryan have just arrived at the studio.
Raquel & Cayla are first, they must solve riddles on the wall by using the people, places, and things they encountered in the race. Once they have aced the test, they must run through a tunnel where they will be greeted with a big surprise. Kim & Penn finish first, they are running through the tunnel to the finish line.
