DO YOU NEED A FLAT SHEET AS WELL AS A FITTED SHEET?

It is a “complete personal preference” according to Amy Revell. “If you don’t use a flat sheet then you will need to wash your doona cover more often,” she says. “But the best way to decide what works best for you is whether you sleep best with or without a flat sheet. You’re going to need to wash your bedding regularly anyway, so flat sheet or not, be comfortable.”

HOW DO YOU FOLD A FITTED SHEET?

The age-old question that has been rekindled as of late on TikTok, the hashtag #fittedsheets has over 100.1 million views. Amy says this is also a debate she has at work, too, so don’t worry – professional organisers are just as conflicted. “Some team members fold fitted sheets like ninjas into tiny neat packages and others of us (guilty) just do a rough fold, roll, scrunch blend and that works for us too.” But she says it is not so important how you fold but “the key is to keep your bedding all together and only keep bedding that you enjoy sleeping on.”

WHAT MATERIALS ARE THE BEST FOR BEDDING?

Bamboo or bamboo cotton blend are Amy’s personal favourites. According to her, “they are light, breathe well and are quick to wash and dry.”

HOW MANY SHEETS DO YOU NEED?

“Create a natural limit for how many spare sets of sheets you’re going to keep,” says Amy. “If you have a spare bed, you may only need one set of sheets for that bed and if you have kids, you may need just two to three sets of sheets per bed. One trick we use in our family is that we aim to wash and change the bedsheets in one day so while they are washing the mattresses get a breather and then we don’t have to fold ANY sheets as by the time it’s bedtime the sheets are dry and ready to put back on the beds.”
